Having enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, my expectations for Angels & Demons was high. Sherree was working to raise those expectations higher by telling me how much better the book Angels & Demons was than the book The Da Vinci Code. I think the movie almost delivered, but dropped the ball at the end. Spoilers ahead!

Well, no play-by-play from me, but I wanted to put up my two cents. (Is my opinion even worth that much?) Anyway, I liked the theme- Michael Jackson songs was good. Two of my favorites were FANTASTIC! Lil, Danny, and Adam will be there until the end. I LOVE them!!! I really liked Allison and Alexis too (as I have the last few weeks). I hope that they also go far.

The two that I think might get cut from the show are Jorge and Megan.

I’m 5 for 6 right now…. what will tonight bring? As in past weeks, I’m commenting as I watch the show (delayed). Once again, I will preface with the fact that I might be a little too critical. I’ve editted myself a few times. I do feel tired and a bit cranky, so some things might have slipped through.

My picks to go through- Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, and Kendall Beard (purely due to a country fan basis).

I won’t be watching the wildcard show on Thursday (conflict with Survivor and Earl), but I hope that Ju’not Joyner and Kristen McNamara come back because they have the knack for changing up the songs.

“Check it out baby…” I’m not a die-hard American Idol fan, but I’m bored with other TV, especially on Tuesday night. I enjoy singing (not that I would ever be good enough to be on the show) so I think that is the appeal for me. I really loved David Cook last season primarily because he took tired, over-played radio songs (in their time) and totally changed them up into his style. His American Idol songs are the only ones that I’ve downloaded from iTunes.

I like the idea that we are going from 36 to 12 in three weeks. When I first started watching the show a few seasons ago, I remember thinking that the elimination process took FOREVER. Let’s weed out the group fast!

My picks from last night - Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey, and Tatiana Del Toro. I tried writing my thoughts during the performances, but of course the judges generally agreed with my thoughts, so some of it is repetitive.

It’s done in a fun way to watch, but the physics are laughable. A focus of the movie is that a shooter can curve the bullet around objects. I liked that idea and it was fun to see it used throughout.

There are several classic movies everyone thinks of when Christmas season rolls around, and for us I think National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is the first we think of. Christmas Vacation has so many memorable scenes and quotable lines:

Finding and putting up the Christmas tree (“Lot of sap in here. Looks great! Little full, lot of sap.”)

Hanging up the Christmas lights (“…a little knot here. You can work on that.”)

The neighbors (“Where do you think you’re gonna put a tree that big?” “Bend over and I’ll show you.”)

Ok, that list could go on for the whole movie: Christmas dinner, burning up the tree, Eddie, the SWAT team…

Perhaps most importantly, this is when Chevy Chase was funny!

I haven’t watched many episodes of the Get Smart TV show, but based on what I remember Steve Carell did a great job of playing Maxwell Smart in the recent Get Smart movie.

Get Smart has a lot going for it: the characters are entertaining and the story isn’t wholly predictable. I enjoy watching Anne Hathaway and The Rock (err, Dwayne Johnson), and Alan Arkin and Terence Stamp are always reliable actors. Fun gadgets abound, as do jokes throughout the movie. Ultimately, however, I find Get Smart quite forgettable. It blends in with just about any movie with mediocre action or a little humor.

Worth seeing if you catch it on TV (well, once it trickles down to TV).

I didn’t really watch it when it initially ran on TV. Apparently there’s a reason. It’s really not very good. At all. Relatively poor acting from most of the cast and uninspired stories are probably my chief complaint. Germaine to the “uninspired stories” comment, after watching the Enterprise — the biggest and best ship in the fleet — fly through space, what could the little Voyager ship add? Nothing, I guess.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Gary Unmarried. I didn’t expect much of it because I never particularly like Jay Mohr (or at least, didn’t think he could lead a show); on the other hand I liked Paula Marshall in Spin City and even The Wonder Years.

Gary Unmarried isn’t an original show and falls back on a lot of the same comedy ideas of the ’80s and ’90s sitcoms, most notably the surprised reaction to something we could all see coming. I suppose that kind of predictable comedy — perhaps more original in The Cosby Show and others — is what makes me like it.

“That’s a lot of pie!” —Denise, The Cosby Show

“I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine. I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine. I’m a robot. Robots are cool. Green Lantern fought a robot. I love Green Lantern. I love pie. Mmmmmm, pie. Wait why am I thinking about pie? I’m supposed to be thinking about something else. Does it rhyme with pie? Fly, by, cry, die, pie? Pie! No. Pie, Green Lantern, Fighting robot, fighting machine, me. I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine. I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine.” —Reese, Malcolm in the Middle

I’m sure there are more, but these came to us right away.

I love my iPod and use it daily, but it’s almost five years old, has horrid battery life, and gets a little more scratched and scuffed each day. Almost exactly one year ago, I was excited to see something new: an iPod Touch. Its capacity and features were just enough to give me pause. But yesterday, a second generation iPod Touch was announced! More features! Lower price! More space!

There are a lot of things to like about The Dark Knight. In the end, I think it was a very good movie--not a very good Batman movie, or a very good superhero movie--just a very good movie.

I suppose that's pretty obvious, though. I mean, it's setting records at the box office, so somebody must like it.

The Kung Fu Panda story isn't particularly original, but it does a great job of throwing in a few twists to make it more interesting. A lot of the script made me laugh out loud, too, with unexpected jokes (like "You had the noodle dream!?") and sight gags that weren't overdone (like Po the Panda bouncing down the steps).

I think the opening sequence--a dream--set the movie up really well. Po is having a dream about being a kung fu warrior that is simply over-the-top, approaching absurdity, thanks to great narration: "...it is said that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!"

Worth seeing.

I think Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a good movie. Not great--certainly not better than the other three, but still quite good. And certainly not deserving of all the negativity the haters have been spreading. This movie follows a lot of the same formula as the others: it doesn't take itself too seriously (and even goes totally over the top in some spots), and has a great mix of action, humor and an entertaining story.

I went into the movie not expecting to be happy, and Sherree wasn't interested in going at all--there've been a number of mixed reviews, and several downright bad reviews. But really, it's Indiana Jones! How could I miss that? Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade are two of my favorite movies, and Temple of Doom is good, too. (Just get the box set.) Even if it was a disappointment, I wanted to see it. Spoilers ahead.

Continue reading Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Review.
